Pond Plants
Plants and ponds naturally go together. Plants at the shoreline
of a pond can intercept nutrient run-off to the pond, thereby reducing
algae growth. Plants also soften the shoreline of the pond making
it look more natural. They also attract butterflies, dragonflies,
damselflies and birds. Your going to grow somethings in your pond,
it might as well be some colourful shorline plants, rather than
algae or weeds.
Some of the more available shoreline plants are
Sweet flag - Acorus calamus
Marsh marigold - Caltha palustris
Blue-flag iris - Iris versicolor
Cardinal flower - Lobelia cardinalis
Great blue lobelia - Lobelia siphilitica
Monkey flower - Mimulus ringens
